1. Champions League: An Appealing Start of the Group Stage
Last night was full of highly entertaining games that marked the beginning of the UEFA Champions League group stage. Manchester City opened their title defense with a 3-1 win over Borussia Dortmund thanks to two scores from Erling Haaland against his old club. Real Madrid swiped an unlikely late 2-2 draw against Paris Saint-Germain thanks to a stoppage-time strike by Vinícius Júnior.

2. NFL: Cowboys run riot in Monday Night Football
The Dallas Cowboys produced a steamroller act to thrash the Philadelphia Eagles 38-17 in Monday Night Football last night. Quarterback Dak Prescott threw three touchdown passes, while running back Tony Pollard added two more on the ground. The Cowboys restricted the Eagles to just 240 total yards and chalked up their claim for the top slot in the NFC East.

3. Heated MLB Playoff Race
It's one week left to the regular season, and the MLB playoff race certainly is heating up. Texas Rangers nailed a wild card berth by getting up 7-6 over Seattle Mariners. In contrast, Chicago Cubs' aspirations towards the postseason get a blow in the light of their loss against the Atlanta Braves with 4-3 thus dropping them two games off from the third and final position of the wild card.

4. NBA training camps open
With the NBA season looming, all team training camps open this week and few will be talked about as much as the rebuilt Phoenix Suns with Bradley Beal, Kevin Durant, and Devin Booker. Admittedly, interest will exist regarding the cohesion of that team and the initial preseason results since many have tagged the Suns as a title contender for this season.

5. Tennis: Astana Open Won by Daniil Medvedev
Daniil Medvedev continued his rich vein of form as he won the Astana Open, beating compatriot Andrey Rublev in straight sets 6-4, 6-3. Now his third title of the year, Medvedev cements his ranking going into the Asian swing of the ATP Tour awaiting him in Shanghai Masters.

6. Rugby World Cup 2024: New Zealand, South Africa Go Head to Head
This weekend brings perennial rivals New Zealand and South Africa into the final group stage match in some of the salivated clashes of the Rugby World Cup. Both have booked a spot in the knockout rounds, but it may just be a fight for the top seed in the pool. Players like Siya Kolisi and Ardie Savea will be among the main players in this epic showdown.
